This campaign aims at educating today's throw away generation to be a little more environmental friendly; To use more reusable mugs for their daily dose of caffeine as opposed to disposable cups and to encourage them to carry their own travel mugs for a refill.
The Coffee Cup Revolution. Let's Take a Stand
To educate people to use more reusable mugs for their daily dose of caffeine as opposed to disposable cups. We all have our favorite coffee shops, Baristas and Costas that we go out of our way to visit in the morning or on lunch break. We walk in, order, consume, and throw away our single-serve cups at least once and often twice a day without a thought to the consequences. But next time, you are standing at the counter, waiting for your favourite latte or cappuccino, just remember that even 500 years from now, the foam coffee cup you are about to use will be sitting in some landfill. And considering that only 10 percent of everything that’s recycleable is recycled, its talking about a lot of landfill space.
Reducing the use of disposable cups. A billion paper cups means 6.5 million trees per year; 252 million pounds of solid waste and 4 billion gallons of water used in the production process of these cups, not to mention the non- biodegradable nature which allows them to remain as pollution in the environment for nearly 1000 years.
It is imperative that today's 'throw away generation' understands the importance of such waste reduction and switching on to more environmental friendly options.
First of all, lets start by how the coffee shops can help. World over, coffee chains are realizing the use of styrofoam cups as an environmental hazard and promoting the use of reusable mugs by offering discounts to all who carry their own mugs for drinking coffee.
Touting around any reusable mug is a responsible, sustainable choice. But the majority of people won't agree with it. They may argue that they'll never remember carrying their own mug and it may look odd. But carrying your own 'Pour my coffee in my mug' fad can catch up sooner than you think. Coffee chains can introduce their own travel mugs and offer discounts to anyone to comes back for a refill.
Not just the coffee would taste yummier, you'll be doing a bit for your environment as well.
